The basic standard defining the level of safety met by door fittings is the European standard EN 1906. This standard specifies test methods and requirements to be met by door handles in various forms of execution. Fulfilling parameters indicated by the standard ensures strength greater than that which is required during normal use. The standard also specifies the classification system that allows you to compare products from different manufacturers.
Products tested according to the standard 1906 are marked with a code consisting of 8 symbols. Each symbol represents a different characteristic, which is defined by different classes.
1. Category of use
There are four classes indicating the frequency and nature of using handles. Class 1 is the average frequency of use, e.g. in a residential rooms, further ones are for rooms increasingly burdened by the use of door, e.g. office. Class 4 applies to most exploited door, this is the high frequency of use, e.g. in stadiums, public places, where the use is frequent and violent.
2. Life span
Two classes determining the frequency of use:
- average frequency of use: 100,000 cycles
- high frequency of use: 200,000 cycles
3. Door mass
Not classified
4. Fire resistance
Two classes of resistance:
- class 0 - means inadmissibility on fire-resistant and smoke-resistant doors
- class 1 - means admissibility to use in fire-resistant and smoke-resistant doors
5. Safety
Two classes of resistance:
- class 0 - normal use
- class 1 - application requiring higher security
6. Corrosion resistance
Five classes of resistance
- class 0 - unspecified corrosion resistance
- class 1 - low resistance
- class 2 - average resistance
- class 3 - high resistance recommended for using hardware outdoors
- class 4 - very high resistance recommended for using hardware, which is subjected to maritime atmosphere or highly polluted industrial environment.
7. Protection against burglary
Five classes
- class 0 - fitting does not protect against burglary
- class 1 - low resistance to burglary
- class 2 - average resistance to burglary
- class 3 - high resistance to burglary
- class 4 - very high resistance to burglary
8. Type of action
Three types of action
- type A - spring-assisted fitting
- type B - fitting with tension spring
- type U - fitting without spring assistance
TECHNICAL SOLUTIONSMost of the grips are mounted on a plate by riveting, wherein the handle is free to rotate. |
